Our Sponsorship

Written by tfshipping on . Posted in News

TF Shipping Ltd are proud to announce they have agreed to sponsor two Premier League footballers for the 2014/2015.  Both players were signed on “Transfer Deadline Day” for Sunderland AFC.

Following on from our previous history of sponsoring players from countries outside of the EU that we are actively working with the two players originate from South America.

The two players sponsored are Sebastian Coates (Uruguay) and Ricky Alvarez (Argentina).  They replace the players we sponsored for 2013/2014 season Ki Sung-Yeung (Korea) and Ignazio Scocco (Argentina).  We wish both Ki and Scocco all the best for the future after leaving Sunderland AFC in the close season.

You can read more about our new “signings” below:

Ricardo Gabriel Alvarez – Attacking Midfielder

Born in Beunos Aires in 1988 Alvarez started his youth career at Boca Juniors but joined Velez Sarsfield in 2006, beginning his professional career in 2008.  During a 3 year spell Alvarez made 42 appearances and scored 5 goals before winning a move to Europe.  Alvarez moved to Inter Milan in 2011 and although being labelled as a sometimes inconsistent player managed to grab 14 goals in his 90 appearances with the Italian giants.

Alvarez is also in the thoughts of the Argentinian international manager and has made several appearances for his national side claiming 1 goal so far.

On transfer deadline day Alvarez made the switch from Inter to Sunderland AFC initially on a season long loan subject to a permanent deal for 2015/16 season.

Sebastian Coates Nion– Central Defender

Born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1990 Sebastian Coates is a Uruguayan international defender who has made 16 appearances for his country since 2011.

Coates initially started his career at Nacional in the Uruguayan league in 2009 having spent 8 years as a youth player with the same team.  For the two years he played in Nacional’s first team he made 55 appearances and scored 8 goals which brought him to the attention of Liverpool from the English Premier League.  Coates signed for Liverpool in 2011 and having struggled to make an impact on the first team returned to Nacional in 2014 for a further loan.  During his spell with Liverpool Coates made 12 appearances scoring 1 goal but suffered with regular injury problems during his adjustment to the English game.

Sunderland stepped in to loan Coates from Liverpool on deadline day to provide back up to their established and experienced central defender pairing of Wes Brown and John O’Shea.  Alongside Argentinian Santiago Vergini Coates makes up the four key central defenders for the 2014/15 season for Sunderland AFC.
